Eilish McColgan, the fastest British woman in history over 10K, will return to the Vitality London 10,000 on Sunday 22 September.
The Scottish star returns to the iconic London 10K event for the first time since 2022 when she finished in 30 minutes and 23 seconds, just two seconds outside Paula Radcliffe’s then British record.
McColgan only needed to wait until her next 10K, in Manchester in May 2022, to break Radcliffe’s record when she ran 30:19. That started a memorable year for McColgan, which was capped by her famous win in the 10,000m at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
The Dundee Hawkhill Harrier has been frustrated by injuries since then but is showing signs of returning to her best form, finishing 15th in the Olympic Games 10,000m earlier this month.
McColgan’s appearance at the 2024 Vitality London 10,000 will be her second event in the capital in the month of September, following The Big Half on Sunday 1 September.
McColgan said: “I love racing in London and have great memories of the Vitality London 10,000 from two years ago. It’s a great event on a fantastic course. I was really pleased with how I performed at the Olympics and am now looking forward to building on that by getting back on the roads to race in September.”
The Vitality London 10,000 is held on an iconic course in central London, starting on The Mall and passing landmarks such as St Paul’s Cathedral and Big Ben before finishing in style in front of Buckingham Palace.
